Ian Wace first saw the advertisement for the remote island of Tanera Mòr in 2013. “It basically said, ‘idiot required,’” the hedge fund manager recalls. But when he set foot on the island in north-west Scotland, overgrown with bracken, moss and brambles, with no proper roads, an abandoned herring station, and views out on to the immense ocean, “I just thought this was an extraordinary place”.

The Sail and Oar Gathering on Tanera Mòr has grown organically from our relationship with Turn to Starboard, and is aimed at bringing together local, maritime & service communities. We look forward to a day of sailing and rowing, sharing food and sharing stories; seeing old friends and making some new ones.
Earlier this year, we welcomed the team from Portfolio magazine onto the island to explore our spaces and to share a little bit about what we do here.
