The Mainland

With construction nearly complete on the island itself, we’re able to focus more on the mainland. Mainland work allows for closer collaboration with our neighbours.

Explore the mainland

Two major buildings are coming into use - The Old Manse and Achnahaird Farm. Work is well underway at the Summer Isles Hotel. The transfer of 7,800 acres of land to the Coigach Community Development Company in 2024 was an added catalyst for the already dynamic community there.

There are four main areas of activity on the mainland.

Am Bothan agus Laimrig Badentarbat

Am Bothan and Badentarbat Pier

Am Bothan agus Làimrig Bad an Tairbeit

The pier - once condemned - is now restored and fully operational as a busy connection between the island and the mainland. The Bothan had fallen into disrepair and was the first building we restored. Today, the Bothan is a multi-purpose community space. It’s  open as a place to find information about the Tanera project - and to enjoy tea, coffee and cake - from Monday to Friday.

An Seann Mhanach

The Manse

An t’Seann Mhanas

The Manse provides a versatile space for the Tanera team and our community. It benefits from donations made to the Am Bothan Fund, and works as a gathering space for food, music and community activities while the Summer Isles hotel is being restored. Like many aspects of the Tanera project, The Manse acts as a catalyst - creating connections and opportunities for the community of the Coigach peninsula. With the Summer Isles hotel undergoing restoration, The Old Manse is a useful gathering place for the community on Coigach. While we are not accepting direct bookings for the farm currently, use of this space can be requested by local organisations through Am Bothan Community Fund.

Sitting in the heart of Achiltibuie, the Summer Isles Hotel site has been a hub for the communities of Coigach - and a landmark for visitors to the area - since at least 1873. After a substantial refurbishment as part of the Tanera project, the iconic hotel will reopen in 2027.

Tuathanas Achnahaird

Achnahaird Farm

Tuathanas Achnahaird

Taking on the land that reaches from Achnahaird to Rhu Beag and the River Garvie re-united an old landholding has opened new possibilities for the Tanera Project. The view from the farm is graced by the West Highland landmarks of Stac Pollaidh and Suilven. The location offers the same peace and seclusion our on-island guests experience, with a view to develop this space for multipurpose use. While we are not accepting direct bookings for the farm currently, use of this space can be requested by local organisations through Am Bothan Community Fund.
